Legal Grounds for Divorce in Singapore
Singapore law requires specific criteria to be met before a divorce can be granted. We will help you identify the most appropriate ground for your situation.
Minimum requirement: The marriage must be at least 3 years old before filing for divorce, except in rare cases of exceptional hardship.
You must prove the marriage has suffered an irretrievable breakdown through one of the following facts:
- Adultery Your spouse has committed adultery and you find it intolerable to live with them.
- Unreasonable Behaviour Your spouse has behaved in such a way that you cannot reasonably be expected to live with them.
- Desertion Your spouse has deserted you for a continuous period of at least 2 years.
- Separation (3 years) You have lived apart for at least 3 years and your spouse consents to the divorce.
- Separation (4 years) You have lived apart for at least 4 years, with or without consent.

What if my spouse is uncooperative?
